Worlds and Wishes
I wish I knew
The worlds above
That make my mouth drop
And my mind turn
More than the flames
of this night’s light.
I wish I knew
What lies ahead
So I can be in control.
“Leaving Reservation”
It read.
I wish I knew
The worlds vaster than this place
And could wander those worlds
For longer than I’ve wandered here.
I wish I knew
The stars’ lives
And how they came to be.
I wish I could talk
To Orion
And ask him if he likes his belt.
I wish I could throw my axe
Up into the sky
And puncture one of the stars
To create new worlds.
To be in control.
To be just like God.
I’m my own God among these evergreens.
They bow to me under the wind
Just as the fire did.
The starlight sky rises and bows
To the darkness and light.
Oh how I wish I could be like the Sun!
