A World Without Poverty

A world filled with poverty

Both hidden and seen.

A world filled with poverty

From sea to shining sea.

And I, so privileged

Yet so oblivious to it all.

I believe I am unlucky

When I could be the luckiest of all.

We all think we know our country

But do we realize all the people suffering?

I know I never did

But then…

Just the past summer

I was up in Cincinnati.

I, a small town Iowa girl

Saw things I never knew existed.

I worked in a sandwich window

I gave furniture to those with none

I saw starving person after starving person

And all I could do was watch.

If I could change one thing

What would it be?

I would change this world

Not for you, nor for me

But for those in need.

I would rid of all the poverty

I would rid of all the starvation

I would rid of the children with no home

And all the parents who neglect.

I would make it a world of happiness

Because if I make it happy for those with none

I make it happy for everyone.
