The World We Make

Tue, 11/19/2019 - 10:19 -- Allxe27

this society has got so messed up that we don’t even know the definition of a simple word anymore.                                                                                                                                              Beautiful

urban dictionary’s definition of beautiful is “someone whose personality and physical appearance is considered extremely attractive to someone else.                                                   by Aaron Peckham. a man

nowadays people’s definition of beauty is dependent on their bra size and butt.

by the age of 8, we were taught that if boys made fun of us it meant that they liked us.

by the age of 10, we were taught that if a man approached us to keep walking, if they grab you scream.

by the age of 14, those men finally caught up to us. we screamed but no one seemed to perceive.

you can probably guess what happened next but i.. can’t say anything because I made a promise not to tell.

we would go to school and it was like we had labels on us saying do whatever you want to me even if I don't agree.

we had to watch what we wore because if too much shoulder or knee was showing it meant “ we were asking for it “

so the only thing we were learning were tips and tricks to tie up our clothing so it didn’t distract the boys form their learning.

apparently wearing shorts and crop tops meant we were flaunting it. but is that your definition of beauty. I hope not.

beauty is feeling comfortable in your own skin but how can we do that if people think my skin is there’s

how can we do that if men don't know the difference between a no and yes.

beauty is feeling good and confident about yourself but how can we do that if everywhere we turn we hear numbers of what other people see. so much that it turns into what we see.

beauty means empowering yourself but how can we do that if everyone believes we belong in a damn kitchen. I do not belong in no damn kitchen, I belong in a conference room a classroom and even a workroom.

how can I empower myself if I still get paid less than a man who does the same exact job as me.

how can I see my own beauty if everyone has misidentified the worth and effort it takes to be a woman. we are used to it all yes we are appalled. but see we don’t know what it’s like to be free beauty is equality that my brothers know that I am equal to them.

my definition of beauty is woman!
