In a World of Perfect People

The first of five

Trying to make sense of the world

Judged for what he is

Judged for what he isn't

Struggling to find a road

One that'll take him home

A baby with a mother who isn't yet his wife

His mistakes on display for all to see

Years of mistakes that follow him

And he has no escape

No escape from the seemingly perfect

In a world of perfect people

The second follows close behind

Making his own mistakes

Trying not to repeat his brother's

While hiding his own in his shadow

Working hard to get somewhere in life

He makes his mama proud

Beer in one hand and Liquor in the other

Still seems so close to perfect

In a world of perfect people

Three years, another follows

Number three of five

Tied for first of perfect people

The underdog, the one who cared

Still has mistakes of his own

A perfect reflection looks back at him

Hides his love of the forbidden

But his sins aren't for the world to see

Not for his mama to cry over

He goes on being almost perfect

In a world of perfect people

Finally number five of five

The last to follow the rest

Still so young and almost perfect

She follows in her sister's steps

Ones she shouldn't trust

Sees the best in those she loves

And the worst in the ones she doesn't

One day destined to make her own mistakes

In a world of perfect people

Lastly in a world of perfect people

Comes number four

The least perfect of them all

Scarred with self-destruction

And a desire to change

She lacks a way to do so

Loved out of wedlock,

She begins to love out of it as well

Just like the woman who brought her into this world

Struggling to recover from past mistakes

Trying to compare to the rest

She has no chance

Not in a world of perfect people
