Between the World and Me

It’s a long ride

Home from school

It’s a long walk

From the bus to the front door

There’s fear in every step

There’s hatard in every word they spit

There’s broken glass on the porch

There’s words on the walls

Words a child has yet to learn

Yet to understand

We can scrub them away

But it still stains

It will always remain

This poem is about:
My family
My community
My country
