Have you ever been bitten by the Little Black Kitten?

His eyes reside in the pits of my soul Dagger-sharp teeth rip and tear at my sanity

Those rat-like ears pick up the sound of a heartbeat once there

His twisted tail ravages my flesh with its poisonous sting

These paws create scars on things not seen

Make sure to beware of the Little Black Kitten

This feline delivers fatal blows

He knows all your weaknesses and where to strike

He'll steal your being away in the night

He's trained to purr in that low-toned fashion

Look out! Look out! This kitten is thirsting

Do you fear the Little Black Kitten?

Perhaps you have seen him while alone in your room

He's in your thoughts. He's in your prayers

You'll start to see him lurking there

I'm here to tell you that the fears you have are true

Even I can't escape from a self-imposed prison

Run faster, Get stronger, Eat up the lies

I know what that's like

To die is for certain, he knows this well

He enjoys slowing the process when you're snug in your bed

Those whiskers that once tickled now tear at your skin

Don't want it to show that I hate my own best friend

Does the Little Black Kitten like to play?

He often gets carried away

Don't be alarmed if he strings out your suffering

Kittens enjoy playing with yarn

He'll begin hist feast with tiny kisses

Then he devours you piece by piece

You must wonder how I know all these things

I guess you could say we're one-in-the-same

He and I are sort of old friends

He visits my nightmares at least once a night

I try to block ou the purring, but it draws me in

I'm starting to HATE the skin that i'm in!

Do you ever wonder about forgiving and forgetting?

They're complete opposites, you know

The difference is that I forgave the cat a long time ago

But I can never forget what he did

That Little Black Kitten took a piece of me that day

That's a piece I can never get back

I guess we all have evil inside

That day was the most evil day of all

Perhaps he forgot it a long time since

But because of that decision we'll be part of eachother forever

Maybe it's me that's the Little Black Kitten

Maybe he is me

I suppose there are answers I'll never get

But BEWARE of us both. BEWARE!

I wrote this poem as a memoir for an english class and had no idea it would get so deep. I think that lots of times we lose our sense of self and our connection to our actions. I hope others can relate to that sense of loss and possibly look into themselves for an understanding.
