Words

Are a powerful thing.

Many can’t control it

Many can’t comprehend the power words have on their lives,

On other people’s lives.

Words.

One slip of the tongue,

And a flood of words come roaring out,

Impacting everyone.

Words.

Used to hurt others, to make fun of others, to intimidate others.

A girl is crying in her room late at night because words tell her that she’s fat, that she’s stupid, and that she’s worthless.

A boy quietly sits by himself in a bustling lunch room because words spread around that he’s a loser, that he’s creepy, and that he’s different.

Words

Are a powerful thing.

Many can’t control it

Many can’t comprehend the power words have on their lives

On other people’s lives.

Words.

One slip of the tongue,

And a flood of words come roaring out,

Impacting everyone.

Words.

Used to build others up, to compliment others, to encourage others.

A girl smiles before she goes to sleep because words tell her that her body’s perfect, that she’s smart, and that she is worth living.

A boy now sits at a table full of newfound friends because words spread around that he’s cool, that he’s caring, and that he’s unique.

Words are a funny thing.
