The Word That Was Heard

Location

Sometimes, the hardest part about being heard

Isn’t being heard

It’s getting the word

From your thoughts

To your mouth

And from your mouth

To the outside world

It all starts with a dot

Soon, others get caught

What was once a single dot

Creates a colony called a thought

It sits in the maze of the brain

Where many other thoughts went and came

It’s ready to move down to the mouth

Preparing to go down south

Suddenly, it is stopped in its track

Watching another thought seep through a nearby crack

“No,” is its word

Another one says, “absurd”

“Bad idea,” another thought retorts

Yet another, “that thought is all out of sorts.”

Without warning, the thoughts attack

Boom, bang, crack!

The defenseless thought destroyed by fate

The dots it was made of dissipate.

Time passes, and here comes the dot

Soon, others get caught

What was once a single dot

Creates a colony called a thought

The same thoughts appear

Threatening a beating even more severe

Bullies in a sandbox, they circle around

Saying, “never again will this thought be found”

Boom, bang, crack go the blows

The thought is dead, one would suppose

But no, it slips through the brain cracks

Away from the attacks

Determined to be seen, to be heard

It travels to the mouth and makes a word

Out it goes

What it will cause, nobody knows

But, it made it, it’s free

For all the world to see

Those thoughts; doubt, negativity, anxiety, fear

Our little thought was able to steer clear

Sometimes, the hardest part about being heard

Isn’t being heard

It’s getting the word

From your thoughts

To your mouth

And from your mouth

To the outside world
