A Woman So Strong

I hated you

My brothers stood in your spotlight

I thought I was just an oversight

Burning envy grew in me through

I just wanted to be loved too

But then things changed

I realized your past and hardships

That 3am late night talk formed a friendship

Only a mother and daughter can exchange

I saw not only a caring mother

But one who has been to hell and back for others

You cared about your children

So much you protected them from a devil

I admired that strength, that kindness, it was special

I wanted to be like you, a woman one in a million

A woman who was brave, kind, caring, and smart

Who showed love to those even when apart

You inspired me to reach for stars

To fight for light in darkness

The importance of love and kindness

That money doesn’t matter nor those fancy cars

You taught me to move on from past scars

To always be me, no matter what life may put me through

I’ll always love you
