Why Not?

Waking up every day knowing my father leaves for work at 4 a.m. to return at 5 in the evening.

The thoughts lingering in the back of my head... "Will he come home safetly?" "What if he getes hurt" "What if I never see him again?"

A Police Officer is what he is. An everyday hero.

But I am scared of the situations he is exposed to- death, robbery, kidnappings, drug use, and much more.

I sit at home, at school, at practice wondering what he is going throug, what is going through his mind, and what is he doing right now.

I have had the oppertunity to meet his team members.

We sit around a table.

Talk.

My heartrate begins to sky rocket and I feel as if my chest is going to explode

Then finally I blurt out,

"Are you guys scared of your job?"

They all look at me and a tiny little smirk comes across their faces.

The reassuring words, "Darlin' we would drop anything to help each other if something went wrong."

"We are a family."

My heart became full, my anxiety eased, and happiness restored my body.

I am no longer in fear of my dad going to work.

Because I know he has his second family with him.

They are his protectors.
