Why I Write

Location

I write because I live.

I write for my generation,

We are a generation of dreamers.

I write for the artists, the poets, the musicians, the dancers.

I write because there was a time

when girls like me were not permitted to write.

I write because in actuality I spend my days

walking around on eggshells.

I write because sometimes art is

too hard for me to express.

I write for pain, I paint for beauty.

I write for Trayvon Martin.

I write for Langston Hughes.

I write for my future, I write for my past.

I write because there is simply no other way for me to breath.

I write because every word is me exhaling

a feeling that would destroy me if left unattended.

I write to survive, I always have and I always will.
