Why I Stay

Fri, 10/27/2017 - 08:47 -- sjwyer2

Sad eyes gaze into mine,

Overwhelmed by the burdens of life

“Why do you stay with me?”

“Because I love you”

Arguing, irritation, yelling

Each point of view proves compelling

We fight until the night ends

Angry lovers, but still remaining friends

Morning comes and we are reminded

That each day together is a gift

And after each fight or quarrel

We feel a positive shift

Together we stay

Our bond getting stronger

Accepting each other

Loving for a little while longer

His love has shown me how to be happy

What it means to be alive

Each day is a new adventure

Giving me confidence, helping me thrive

Relying on each other when times get tough

When we’ve given up, really had enough

A shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold

Living and loving until we grow old

Companion, confidant, partner, lover

We make the choice each day

To charge ahead, to love and discover

To choose the love, to choose the friend

Our broken hearts we choose to mend

Commitment and trust

Safety, honesty, and lust

Hold us together through thick and thin

While we watch our love begin

When those sad eyes look into mine

And ask me why I stay

I give my honest and true answer

And this is what I say:

Because I love you

Because you’re mine

Because you love me too

We’ll be just fine

Trust in me and I’ll show you what’s real

Every day I will remind you how I feel

Even though our love lives in our youth

“Because I love you” is the honest truth
