why do i need a book?

you say this book is mandatory

150 bucks for a fat ass book ill only use halfway

but my mom can only use her face halfway

medical bills insurance and doctors all waiting

to see the payment we owe in the mail

i cant wait for the day i throw my cap and set sail

you say i have to study to get good grades

i NEED the book to pass

but i can just befriend the quiet kid in the class

make a new lifeline out of a need

spread the seed of friendship

another mast plunged in the hull of my future ship

the worlds covered with pain and scars

like my 9th grade teacher telling me im too fat to be varsity

6 years later and i represent my city

you cant tell me i cant do something just cuz you couldnt

you gave up you fell into the norm

but ill never fall every hardship im reborn

into a better man and stronger friend

so no i dont need your book

i will pass your class and i will make new friends

money shouldnt hinder my education

money shouldnt be the life of our nation

education is the spine and love is the mind

until we can all realize this we'll all stay blind

and continue charging fafsa funded students $200 for a piece of paper

with a few ideas coming from the clay molded by the norm

the real ideas come from within and arent written

just ask Ghandi and MLK and why they burst through the seams

it all started from a dream...
