Who Paved Your Way?

I should start by announcing at the very top of my lungs "SCREW. YOU."

Now I shall repent by saying "I know it wasn't all your fault."

The school system helped too.

Cursed to the lifestyle of an inner city student, you say I've been blessed with an opportunity to learn

You show us all those videos and read us stories about those less fortunate than us who aren't quite blessed enough to receive an education

But damn us to crap education

I can't afford private school.

And it seems to me that's the only way I'll receive any kind of quality effort brought forth by a teacher

Go ahead, defend your honor but show me proof

How many children have actually made something of themselves because of you?

How many can you take credit for?

If your answer is not all of them, then you are not a quality teacher.

A quality teacher would be able to say that they took part in paving the road that a successful student traveled down.

I'm sorry. I can't hear you over the silence.

Maybe the crickets are quality teachers because they seem to be the only one's speaking up right now.

Instead of taking offense to this poem, maybe you should make a change.

I sure as hell wouldn't complain if I was forced to drop your name when they ask me

Who paved your way?
