Who Killed Poetry

Thu, 07/19/2018 - 00:40 -- Bobby.

We have a problem in America
Our arts are becoming less of us
Yes I'll cover up body parts within my art
But who killed poetry
Grinch in the night
Stole true hope and words
I'm sorry for my simple words
My vocabulary isn't up to par
But when did poetry become rules and laws
I have to write to a prompt
I want to speak about my loss
My sexuality
Maybe other things that aren't for little ears
I know cursing isn't what you prefer
When did poetry
Become so limited
Constantly have to keep editing
I'm looking for approval for people that won't even read this
Struggling to make it in class and
Teachers are saying it's too explicit
Maybe I'm just telling the truth and
No else with follow in my lead
Take back something that gave us freedom
Stop worrying about what they're feeling
Turning poets into cookie cut plastic
Following the same tactics
Like we live the same happy life
Let's talk about abortion and homelessness
Abuse and bitches
Maybe about that girl that doesn't know you even exist
Soon the writers will be following mainstream
Congratulations
To the person
Who killed poetry
