Who I Am

Black, intelligent, strong willed , free
A person thats not afraid to stand up & speak
From the gumbo and jambalaya to the spicy crawfish fire
I am who i am, and aint gonna change, a heritage for i will not exchange
My body, my mind, my spirit, my love, a heavenly trumpet sounding from above
My lips, my hips, my thighs, my waist, a beautiful baby girl with dimples in her face
I grew up in the streets of downtown New Orlreans, i've ate da shrimp, da poboys, da homemade red beans
I've watched people die from hurricanes & drugs, I've seen people shot by terrorist & thugs
I remember the screams and th ringing in my ears, I remember the pain, the sorrow, the tears
But i do NOT regret it, nor do i forget it
For it has made me who i am, and who i want to be
Black, intelligent, strong willed, free
So criticize my people, and the streets that i walk
To the crazy loud slang which i decide to talk
For i no longer care wat anyone thinks of me, bacause i know who i am and who i want to be
Black, intelligent, strong willed, free
