White America

Dear Millennials, just in case you wander into a voting booth one day there are some things you should know.

One, there is absolutely no evidence that America has ever been the greatest country in the world.

The wage gap is 80%, women and African Americans are still fighting for basic human rights and we have an orange President who wears a toupee.

We lead the world in number of African Americans incarcerated, number of adults who believe Jesus is “Protecting us” and defense spending, where we drop the “mother of all bombs” leaving children motherless.

None of this is the fault of a 17 year old, white male who catcalls down the hallway, but you, millennials  nonetheless have the worst voting turnout and that is why we have to march the streets without Martin Luther King.

So when you ask us millennials, what makes us “the greatest Country in the world?” We don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about! White Privilege?

America has never been the greatest Country in the world.

We teach children that Columbus discovered America in 1846 and disregard the trail of tears.

We teach young women, be smart! But not smarter than your husband or you will disrupt his manhood.

Cross your legs, shave every part of yourself until you’re a skipping stone, but shout “what was she wearing?” when another survivor reports her case.

And for young men, remember to tell her “she’s beautiful” and she will bare you children and cook you dinner.

Teach your son to stand tall and when he cries, scream “man up!”

Call your mother once and week but never tell her about the raped women you left behind the dumpster.

I am sorry, statue of liberty that our President has dismantled you.

I am sorry, Standing Rock that white men can’t put there money where their mouth is.

Children of Aleppo, I mourn for you and I promise to teach my children to build bridges not walls.

America was never the greatest country in the world, but one day.

We can be.
