Where I'm From

I am from honeysuckle air,

And sun kissed skin.

I am from a fat green chair,

And mischievous grins.

I am from singing creeks,

And dancing fields.

I am from a hollow tree,

And a love that doesn't yield.

I am from a protector,

A brother.

I am from the guidance,

Of sisters.

I am from loving hands,

And merciful lies.

I am from army chants,

And soft goodbyes.

I am from aching hearts,

And pitiful tears.

I am from brief calls,

And lost years.

I am from coming homes,

And happy days.

I am from buried bones,

And sorrowful praise.

I am from late night whispers,

And screaming fights.

I am from desperate "I love yous"

And cries of "Daddy, please don't leave tonight."

I am from broken promises,

And painful nights.

I am from crushing loses,

And custody fights.

I am from impossible choices,

And broken dreams.

I am from vengeful voices,

And unjust means.
