Where I'm From

Where I’m From Poem

I am from games,

from trading cards and computers.

I am from the slide in the park,

from the remains of an egg on the slide

I am from the tall tree,

the willow tree,

that ate up all our

badminton birdies.

I am from the public swimming pools and the golf course

from Peter and Julius.

I’m from the books and the piano,

from speak Chinese and do your work.

I am from the Chinese three character classic

and all I can memorize

I am from the pizza,

hamburgers and lasagna.

From the drawer under my pencils,

 the box in the closet.

Hidden away was an old album

filled with pictures,

from beyond the invention of color pictures

and beyond a cultural revolution.

I am from all of these

snapshots of the past.
