Where Am I Going

In my eye’s corner was a sight I had seen before

That irresistible beauty from the gulf coast shore

Walking majestically then seeing me and slowing

She smiled politely asking where I was going

In my pensive mood her question I did ponder

A distorted dream in a mind wistful full of wonder

So many aspirations asunder lost evermore

And what the future holds I don’t know anymore

I don’t know anymore the echo in my head

And with sad eyes starring what aloud I said

Then she did worry seeing despair in my eyes

Unaware of the futility of all my tries

But a lost man sees more than one who knows his path

Perhaps this is a gift not my ghost or God’s wrath

For in the ashes of dreams are the sparks of new fire

And when a bird hits a tree it knows to fly higher

At the bus stop cold conclusions stung at my heart

But the questions they wrought were a humble start

To have tried so hard and to lose all my winnings

But there is victory in defeat for all ends are beginnings
