When Someone Looks At Me
When someone looks at ME
I don’t want them to just.. See
I want them to feel
And to smell
And to taste
And to hear
I want them to surround me
Engulf me, encircle, BOUND me
I want them to know me, grow with me
Rise up and show me
That they identify with –
ME
I want them to feel the warm me
The cold me
The old me, and the NEW me
I want them to be REBORN with me
I want them to feel my energy
The dark and the evil and the corrupt
But the magnificent and beautiful and loving
ME
I want them to smell my sweat
Not from some gym they’ve never heard of
Or because I have hyperhidrosis
Which I don’t
I want them to smell my sweat;
The sweat of a nervous, lost girl
Or the sweat of a hardworking ME
The dedicated me
The part of ME no one SEES
Maybe not to a sport or in my academics
But I am dedicated
To me
By me
For ME
I want them to taste my life
The sweet, the bitter, the sour and the tart.. ME
I want them to relish in my being
To savor every last afterTASTE of whom I am
ME
Taste the blood from every scar that is on my flesh
And every wound that has ever touched the surface that is –
ME
They might be invisible but they’re there
And they sting
They sting ME everyday
I want them to hear my cries
Cries for help, ME
Cries for love, ME
Cries of distress or hurt, ME
I want them to hear it all
My laugher when something isn’t that funny
But I laugh anyway
My screams when someone startles me
Or because I can’t take it anymore
My heavy breathing
From a beaten and bruised heart
When someone looks at me
I want them to feel.. free
I want them to know that everything will just be
Be okay, be alright, be horrible
Just let it be
Because I’ve been through it all
ME
So let yourself be seen
If you need to scream
Scream
Be heard
Be loud
In this judgmental world you NEED to be noticed
Maybe there should be less ME’s and more WE’s
Maybe WE need to form together for a better society
Maybe WE need to take a stand
Be almighty, save your SANITY
So when you see me
Know that finally we are standing up to authority
Know that insanity is the majority because they won’t let us be
And they don’t see
Or touch
Or taste
Or hear
We
