What outweighs the soul

1 John 2:15-16 New English Translation (NET Bible)

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, 16 because all that is in the world (the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance produced by material possessions) is not from the Father, but is from the world.

Materialism

The material possessions in value

far outweigh the soul.

The soul you can trample,

but possessions make you whole.

Possessions give you power

to despise the human soul

because it lifts you up somehow

above the human role.

It makes you better than the rest

or at least it fulfills your needs

to feed that endless craving,

that subtly embraces greed.

So as you travel through the day

and embrace what you love most,

you sacrifice that part of you

that used to be "your" soul.
