Los Angeles, California. What is it like?
Sunny weather, super stars, flashing lights.
That’s what people think L.A. is like.
But they don’t know about South Central and all of its fights.
Palm trees, beautiful beaches, big tall buildings.
That’s what people think L.A. is like.
But they don’t know about East L.A.’s rates of killings.
Bikinis, surfers, peaceful waves and silence.
That’s what people think L.A. is like.
But they don’t know about all of the ghetto’s violence.
Beverly Hills, Malibu, and the Hollywood sign.
That’s what people think L.A. is like
But they don’t know about South Central, East L.A., and all of the ghetto.
Beach waves, pool parties, and blasting music.
That’s what people think L.A. is like.
But they don’t know about the helicopters and the sirens.
Wealthy white people with tans and shades.
That’s what people think L.A. is like.
But they don’t know about all the poor African Americans and Hispanics.
Convertibles driving in every freeway and highway.
That’s what people think L.A. is like.
But they don’t know about all of the car chases this way and that way.
Livin’ in L.A., now that is the life.
That’s what people think L.A. is like.
But they don’t know that living in the poor zone of L.A. can be the end of your life.
'Cause that's not what people think L.A. is like.
