What I've Learned

There is a beauty in words-

An undeniable power,

Washing over me as I'm overcome

Trying to show you my soul

With just a pen and paper.

It's amazing to craft emotions-

Make you feel my hunger

My pain, my sorrow,

But also my joy,

My happiness, my breathless wonder

At the world around me,

The people who disappoint me,

Make me glad to be alive,

Make me want to show you my mind.

Poetry has taught me

That I don't need to be wordy,

I don't need to rhyme,

All I need is to feel something

And to want to share it with the world

And it's raw and real and beautiful

And everything I've learned

This poem is about:
Me
