What does poetry mean to

What does poetry mean to me?

Hold on, let me think.

Okay. Ready?

Poetry is the sound of the ocean,

It is the stars that twinkle late at night.

Poetry is what love looks like.

A poem can bring two people together,

It can resonate with a thousand more.

Poetry has the power to unite strangers to a common cause.

It's powerful,

Beautiful,

Impossible,

Yet so real.

How can a few verses

Make me feel so strong?

Poetry makes me feel like I can make a difference,

It gives me hope that people still care.

Those who write poems

Are the ones who fight

Whether it's for free school

Or for the feminist cause.

Read a poem

And try to describe to me

The feeling it gives.

That feeling of power,

That sense of righteousness,

The thought that somehow someone can read your mind.

Reading a poem

Is seeing their soul,

Writing a poem

Is giving yourself to all.

It's dangerous and exhilirating,

The way it can make you feel

To write down your most intimate thoughts

And let any who please read.

So ask me again, what does poetry mean?

And here is what I can say;

To write these words

Is to give myself to the universe

I can move mountains and part oceans,

Cross the galaxy and visit stars

I can do the impossible and spur people to action

All with the help of a couple of words.

Me
