What am I?

I am warm and I am cold.

I am a force to be trifled with but a protector of my children.

I am a home to many and full of life.

I can be nuturing as well as a disaster.

I grow and survive for I am strong.

I am beautiful and sometimes ruined,

But that is ok because I come back.

I hold wonders that have been discovered,

And many that still have not been found.

I have light and I have darkness.

I am as young as a child,

And older than the dinosaurs.

What am I?
