We, The United States.

We, The United States.

A poem by Briana Jackson about US involvement in the Vietnam War.

We launch ourselves into things easily avoidable,

Alienating those that disagree.

We wait years to confess our sins,

Our conflict with the Vietnamese.

We lie about our motives and to our soldiers,

Fearing those that speak the truth.

We care not for those poor or struggling,

Only about the size of our Howitzer M102. *

Somehow we feel superior to other countries,

Though we hold so much hypocrisy in our hands.

Perhaps we should tend to our self-inflicted wounds,

Staying out of other lands.

Though we’ve “confessed” what we’ve done wrong,

We still twist the textbooks and what they say.

We, the Patriotic.

We, The United States.
