We Survive! It's What We Do!

We take for granted simple gestures
Like a hug, a fist bump or a hello
But now that we have to take preventive measures
It’s making everyone seem callous and cold
Yet in all of this let us not lose who we are
We are humans! We survive! It’s what we do
And while we may yet mourn and cry
This is just another episode we will get through
We made it through wars, and even the ice age
We survived the likes of measles, polio and chicken pox
B’cuz we know how to pull together our resources and knowledge
So making it through this uncertain chapter now is a must
B’cuz while our uncertainty may be shrouded in grief and tears
The certainty of our hope as a people must not wane
For historically all through our dark and turbulent years
We always find a way to survive it seems
As humans we crave intimacy
But now it is something we will have to do without
Yet this should not be a time to question the legitimacy
For prevention now is the key, no doubt
Though we are traveling through this dark tunnel now
We believe and know that this tunnel does have an end
In this bout we have been temporarily knocked down
But we will prevail with our compassion, ingenuity and strength
So while we may not be able to hug a friend or a relative
And the physical expression of our love is on hold
Let us not forget that love is the most precious gift
And it can be put into words you know
Through survival and ingenuity we have stood the tests of time
But with compassion, hope and love, we maintain our sanity
So look beyond the horizon at the impending sunshine
FOR WE SURVIVE! IT’S WHAT WE DO!! WE ARE HUMANITY!!!
