We Don't Always Have Happy Endings

I'll love you forever.

I see fairies and dwarves and magic

dancing around in my mind's eye.

You taught me to be kind and caring,

to always love everyone no matter who they are.

You taught me to be strong and courageous,

and to always be myself.

I love the lessons you taught me.

And then I think,

"What if we are the movie,

and you are learning from us?"

What would you think?

Would our lessons be the same as yours?

The biggest difference is,

we don't always have a happy ending.

We lose loved ones,

we make decisions that harm ourselves and others.

We fight and kill,

and harm others with our hands and words.

We don't always have happy endings.

That is reality,

something some people hate to accept.

Our "Once upon a time" is life,

a life that can end in tears,

or we leave with a smile on our lips.

This is our fairy tale.
