War Changes Life
Thee look’d out the window with nay more light.
A plague; gray ash, dust, and woe filled the sky.
When the smoke cleared, all was lost in the fight,
And marry from thee my strength rose up high.
As grenades were thrown hither to thither,
Thou prayed the good had our horrid foe stopped
In the midst of this all, we’re together.
Heaven we’re still here after the bomb dropped.
I would never let a wound ruin me
But the scars don’t fade, don’t change, and don’t leave
The post-traumatic stress remains with thee.
There are patches left that we must now weave.
There once was a time we had everything
But now, we start all over with nothing.
