War

The army came marching at dawn,
To the battlefield they were drawn,
The enemy came at noon,
Not wanting to get there soon.
Both sides stood, waiting for a command,
Muskets at the sides in their hands,
The order was given, they raised their guns,
Shots began firing, the war had begun,
The enemy was losing, they began to retreat,
But there was no joy, the dead lay at their feet,
For the rest of their lives, the soldiers remembered,
All the horrors glowing dim as an ember.
