Walking on egg shells

You tell me to

state my mind

when I am quiet.

You force me to

share my thoughts

on the daily things.

But when it comes time

to voice what I believe

You don’t want to hear.

Is my past so different from yours

that there can be no similarities?

My opinions do not matter?

Or is it that you just won’t listen

to the opposite side

of the spectrum?

I say people can change,

You say: Impossible!

Yet proof stands before you.

I ask to consider forgiveness

You ask: Why should I?

But I still show you how

to let go of a grudge.

So I let you state your mind

and I listen to your beliefs,

without flinching.

Why must I be the one

to always walk on egg shells?
