Villain

VILLAIN

V-I-L-L-A-I-N

What happens when you are the villain?

Raised up to believe in the black and the white

When all there really is

Is day and night

And the people living in between.

Us.

They act as though we want our worst selves to be seen

What if I want to be in the background?

Villain.

Let me spell it out for you.

V-I-L-L-A-I-N

Evil; The only dictionary definition

Letter by letter we are loaded into a worded prison

V is for vile

We are like vomit splattered on old tile

We are the result of bad decisions

We ARE the bad decisions

We are like drugs, and alcohol, and twisted visions

I is for Impudent

We don’t follow the rules

Don't like to be treated like the tools

That THEY thought we were.

We are like letters in numbers

Unwanted and unappreciated

Just because we've deviated

From the "norm".

L is for Lowlife

We sink to our knees

Before each prince and princess

Their royal schemes

Slamming us down

Until we are level with the Earth

Level with the dirt and the worms unearthed

And the DISGUSTING thing stuck on the bottom of their shoes

Did you think we chose to be born to lose?

L is for Loved less,

NOT Love - less.

We are not made of stone

But flesh and bone

Heart and blood

The sounds Thud thud and crack

We are just the ones who were never loved back

We cried until the tear wells inside dried up

Our hearts shrivelled up

And now here we stand

Empty.

Why are we. So. Empty?

A is for Anger.

That's right. We are angry.

Angry at the ones who kicked us when we were down

Who greeted us with a frown

The ones who were surprised when we growled back

When we said

"Watch out"

"We bite"

They looked at us like we didn’t have

The RIGHT to be angry.

What happened to our dreams?

To our families?

To our Happy Endings?

It's not our fault the world decided

That we didn’t get to be happy

I is for irredeemable.

We have become irretrievable

We’ve sunk so far we can’t crawl back

This is the way we were taught to act

We don’t know any better

We don’t know how to be better

We aren’t all so clever

We don’t want to be like this anymore.

We never wanted to be like this.

N is for nightmare

We are our worst fear come to life

From victims to victimizers

Terrorised to terrorizers

They should be glad.

They’ll never dream a dream as bad

As what we see in the mirror

It couldn’t be clearer

How wicked we’ve become

We won’t try to run when they come

After all, who would they hurt

By putting us in the dirt?

Didn’t you know that

No one mourns the wicked?

Villain.

The real definition

We are the bullied who became the bullies

The girls whose princes broke their hearts

The boys whose hopes were dashed on rocks.

We are the fallen.

The Bad Endings.

Do you understand the message I’m sending?

If you want a Happy Ending

You need to stop pretending

That you couldn’t be just like us one day.

And this is where our story ends,

When I finally put down my paper and pen.

I can only hope someone will read this

And step in

When they see someone rotting into a villain.
