Usual Encounters

I tell myself you’re just one person

And this is just one meeting.

But for all I know, this could be extraordinary.

We could learn so much.

Have a couple of laughs and some great memories.

Must we live alone

Because we are afraid of the hurt

The potential pain

The parting.

It is all rather inevitable.

And we try to cease it all by avoiding connection

But are we not already in pain,

Suffering as we speak?

Yes, pain reminds us of how we are alive.

How deep and real this pain may feel is a good indicator of life.

How fragile we all really just are.

To deny this feeling by avoiding everyday life situations is to deny life itself.

To deny the very essence of being human.
