USA Free Verse

Across our 50 states and great lakes waves our nation’s flag.
It waves gallantly across the seas for all to see.
America is the big great country where all want to be.
It’s the final destination to many who seek the key, to the engine of their new lives.
Truth!
No, all I see are us the poor masses crumbling from the struggles of life,
the poor masses to which many of us call home.
The poor masses that park on front porches,
Crippled by the heat of the government’s financial torches,
Crippled by the microcosmic system of a pen and sheet of white paper;
Truth!
As life passes
As life passes
Those on top continue to sit and tear this country asunder.
Oh hello, Uncle Sam are you my big brother?
Oh no dear boy all I need is money. Power is my only lover.
Truth!
Nah, Uncle Sam tell that to another.
I’m not your dear boy, or even your little brother.
I’m just a kid looking out there looking for his next supper.
Truth!
I sit here sitting here as citizen of the red, white, and blue
and all I have to say is the fact that I don’t know which bill is due.
Truth!
I’ll just sit back in my black hoodie and my bag of skittles as I chew.
Our country
