Uphill, In The Snow

Location

You know you’re getting old when your knees start to creak

when your back seizes up if you bend.

You know you’re getting old because you miss good music

and the kids these days just don’t understand.

You know you’re getting old because your hair is turning white

and the skin around your eyes is wrinkled.

You know you’re getting old when you can’t sleep at night

because you’ve got restless leg syndrome.

But you know you’re getting old

when you start wanting to live.

When you wish you could dance like you used to.

You’re getting old because you wish you did

all those things that you were too scared to.

When the sun seems brighter

but you can’t risk a tan

‘cause the doctor says your skin must be lighter.

When the water is warm

but you can’t swim

in your old age, you’re just not a fighter.

You can’t help but say “when I was your age”

to the neighbor’s kid down the street

because you want him to live

like you could’ve done

before your knees started to creak.
