It was a cold and dismal day unlike any other,
The streets were flowing with people running into one another.
A lady cold and tired, with feet aching and all sore,
Climbs up a set of steps, just inside of the bus door.
She walks to the back and finds an uninviting seat,
While trying to warm herself, she shuffles her hands and feet.
She hears the bus driver yelling for someone to move to a different spot
But as bitter cold as she was, the urge to see who, she fought.
Then suddenly he was in her face growling with all malice
“You need to move, the white sections full” his words were sharp and callous
She sat there in her seat that had just started to get warm
At that moment she had decided that she was going to go against the norm.
“No” she heard the words come out of her mouth “I will not”
That day Rosa Parks started something called the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
The boycott then lasted for a little over a year,
Then segregation on buses ended, causing many to cheer.
Thanks to one woman’s stand for what she thought was right,
We are now a country united in the face of all that’s light.
