The Unheard Thoughts of an EMT

Location

I’ll speak my mind

I’LL SHOUT IT TO THE WORLD

Let my rage no longer be confined

LET THESE TANGLED THOUGHTS UNTWIRL

For the men and women I couldn’t save

WHOSE CHESTS I COMPRESSED

Whose last breathes I gave

I TRIED MY BEST

I want you to live

I TRY AND I TRY

I hope their families will forgive

BECAUSE THEY DIE AND THEY DIE

Everyone’s time must end

BUT DAMN IT ALL

This was someone’s friend

WHO NOW HAS TO RECEIVE THAT HEART-WRENCHING CALL

Show me I made a difference

SHOW ME I MADE A CHANGE

Why in this instance

WHY MUST A LIFE BE EXCHANGED

I am an E.M.T.

I CAN SAVE YOU

These are the thoughts that plague me

HERE I AM BEING HONEST AND TRUE

Death is a part of my job

BUT THAT ISN’T IT ALONE

The bad days will never rob

ME OF THE DAYS THAT I AM SHOWN

A child’s smile

A MOTHER’S RELIEVED SIGH

Even if for just a while

I FEEL NOTHING BUT SKY HIGH

I am thankful for my passion

I AM THANKFUL FOR MY SKILLS

I get nothing but satisfaction

AS MY LIFE IS FULL OF THRILLS
