Unfounded Accusations

Something took the rhyme from me

I never felt it go

But how to get it back again?

Don't ask me; I don't know.

Something took the rhyme from me

like falling on my back

and feeling wind knocked from my lungs

and gasp for what I lack.

Something took the rhyme from me

and now my words are lost:

they wander up and down the page

without a proper cause.

Something took the rhyme from me

or someone sinister did

he stole it out of spite and now

he won't tell where it's hid.

Someone took the rhyme from me

and now my rhyme is his

I'll never find it anymore

but wait--look, here it is!
