#TYSK (Thank You Sarah Kay)

"Ten things I know to be true"

A thousand things I know to be false.

High school is the best time of your life. False.

Sticks and stones may break my bones. True.

Words won't hurt me. False.

Words can heal me. Conditional.

Love. ...also conditional.

"The truth changes if we both lie"

The lies cease to exist if we just tell the truth. But the truth is such a terrifying endeavor.

"Killing me softly"

If a body falls in a forest with nobody around to hear it, do I still have to attend the funeral?

Death has brought me to church more often than love. Marriage comes after high school. Kids come after marriage. But for some, kids come during high school.

He called me at three in the morning. He told me he had never met his father and now She was moving away. He had never met his father, and his son would grow up in the shadow of a bastard never met.

Along with high school comes a raging anti-aging desire not to end up like our parents...but it's inevitable.

Tuesday is mac'n'cheese day. Fourty cents in my pocket will buy me lunch, but my peers want me to spend it on their drugs instead. Hop the fence with a lighter in my left hand. I've learned more about life skipping class than I have attending it. I've learned more about how to throw a punch in class than I have about my future.

Another funeral. The possibility that a future doesn't even exist is very real. All I know for sure is the present and a thousand other things I know to be false.

Wow. This is so powerful, even only as I read it. I would LOVE to hear this spoken aloud or recorded. This really blew me away. Thank you for sharing!
