A Trip to Auschwitz

Location

A trip to Auschwitz

My apprehension growing with every step

I can see the sign that welcomed the prisoners

Arbeit macht frei- work brings freedom

Empty words

A trip to Auschwitz

Surrounded by barbed wire

Sleeping in stark barracks

No food, no rest

Nothing

A trip to Auschwitz

I can almost hear the cries of the past

the terror, the pain

To the right, to the left

Families divided

A trip to Auschwitz

Names taken away

Tattooed numbers instead

No longer individuals; more like animals

Almost non-human

A trip to Auschwitz

Nazi madmen with guns

Not caring about the loss of precious lives

Death all around

Tears flowing freely

A trip to Auschwitz

It has been 65 years, yet little has changed

We are no longer hunted, but neither are we free

We are all still suffering, the same as before

A trip to Auschwitz
