Traumas of a thing called Family

Traumas of a thing called Family

by : Linda Oostendorp

Family is meant to love according to society,
yet there is more pain in a family than love.
And the young in the family learn early on that it is ironic.

Fathers hit wives and children,
Uncles torment neices and nephews.
Yet in the family still made to listen.

When will the cruelty of family end?
Be it now or never.
For as we speak a child's life may very well be at an end.

I wrote this in memory of someone who died due to child abuse in my town. I was best friends with one of her sisters. Thankfully justice was served but at the price of the cruelty of the world towards the siblings who survived claiming them to be liars.

Families are rarely what they seem.
