Tornado
Thank you, tornado
When I was ten, you whipped through town
Sirens blared
I thought nothing of you, told my friends
“My mommy isn’t hiding in the hallway
Mommy says there’s no bad weather”
Mommy was in the hallway, but I didn’t know
I was at school
We went in the hallway
You knocked down the playground
Splintered the surroundings
Flooded the city
Now, I know to respect the storms
Their process
Many things are destroyed but they can be rebuilt
I was destroyed but also rebuilt
Better, I suppose
Thank you, tornado.
