Too Often

Too often,

People are ignored,

Treated like they don’t exist,

Too often,

People are left alone and bored,

The bullet might have killed him,

But a thought is what pulled the trigger,

He went unnoticed for seventeen years,

It wasn’t until his name was carved in stone,

It wasn’t until he disappeared,

That all of you started to care,

I loved him and I still do,

But that never made a difference to any of you,

He put that gun up to his head,

And thanks to society,

My lover is dead.
