two storms met a pair of amber gems

and the whole world stood still

what do you want

turned into whatever you want

and two ruddy organs

that once felt so numb, so cold, so empty

were bursting with life,

finally seeming full

leaking with overflowing love

that looked a lot like blood

is there a better metaphor

for our story?

i can’t imagine so

we were both drowning

clinging to the other

but we were only weathered lifeboats

with cracks and holes and dirt

and we never would be

no, not anymore

our lips forgot how to form three words

but our vocal cords rattled the foundation

of our dust and honey

i really don’t know how to be that girl

in your subconscious
