Tiny Feet

The tapping sound of tiny feet

Was enough to stir me

My passion for life had dulled

Until the moment she walked

Too young to know her importance

Too small to shoulder the burdens I carried,

I looked towards her for creativity

For the same joy she expressed after walking for the first time

If only she knew how special she was

If only she felt the confidence she bestowed onto me

Like a flower that blooms under the rain,

My heart grew to a size I thought insurmountable

She joyfully rounded corners here and there

And I found myself chasing the little girl in me

What strength she possessed,

Powerful enough to unearth all inspiration and imagination

Which had been stripped from me

The tiny gestures she presented to the world

Somehow lessened its weight tenfold

If only I could hear her thoughts and ideas

If only I could provide her the space she needed to make it new

I wanted to watch her every step

I wanted to witness her creative genius

Spark my existing beliefs

Just to see the world through her eyes

She held power I had forgotten existed

And broke me down to my most basic form

The moment she took her first steps,

Laughing proudly as if she had been the first to do it

Me
