This Thing Called Success

I heard the other day

About a girl

Just a few years older than me

Who took her own life

She had it all

The love and support of so many

But the stress of school got to her

Death seemed more appealing than struggle

How many more like her have there been

Will there be

Is this the destiny of all teens

To toil until we break

And mend to break again

Is it worth it

Or do we quit while we're ahead

Choose everlasting sleep over the woes of life

Yet we trade sanity for success

Or rather what society defines as "success"

That's the final goal

Isn't it

This thing called success

And yet

A girl my age is dead

Because she couldn't see success

In the near future

Now she has no future
