THEIR SOUL STOPS ~non rhyming poetic story~

When a person truly suffers a broken heart
THEIR SOUL STOPS.

The world keeps on going,
time keeps on going,
the body and mind keep going,
but the soul gets crushed in its place and may never recover.

Sometimes after long periods of Faking It, a person may actually love again but their inner being
(the soul)
will forever and always carry some form of damage.

Contemplation
meditation
exhalation
even vacation...
can be nice distractive measures
or attempts at healing but;

When a person truly suffers a broken heart
THEIR SOUL STOPS.

It just stays where it is.
It does not grow.
It does not die.
It does not go along for some ride.
It just sets down roots where it is and kicks the ground at its feet for eternity; wondering how such a fate could have befallen it.

Sadder yet is the empty husk left to wander;
that thing that used to house the soul.
(some call them The Walking Dead)
no not zombies...
but the emotional wreck
of what's left of the afflicted.

I'm not talking about some high school lost Puppy Love Thing.
(Although I am sure there are occasions of intense High School loves lost)
What I am talking about is the whole soul mate thing and what happens when THAT gets destroyed.
When someone literally steals that connection that the husk use to have with the soul;

When a person truly suffers a broken heart
THEIR SOUL STOPS

That is the truly broken hearted with deep suffering and long-lasting damage.

Like when an elderly couple; together for 60-70 years and one sadly passes away. Lots of times the other one will die shortly thereafter of a broken heart.

The unlucky live on quite alone.

Worse yet is when that kind of bond is TAKEN away,
not by old age
not by tragedy
but by when the other person
just gives up,
quits,
moves on
leaves a void
that hole in your chest
that spot where love used to be.
It is where the electrical cord of their soul used to plug in to the side of your heart giving life meaning.
But it got ripped away...
leaving an unhealable wound... remaining open to the elements...
...to all that is wrong with the world... sore and raw.
This is only the beginning of what it means to suffer, to be made to roam the Earth naked,
alone, head hung low;

When a person truly suffers a broken heart
THEIR SOUL STOPS

Some folks try to act as if all is well in order to not feel the Eyes Upon them.
But underneath the suffering remains it still hurts when all alone with just a mirror.
Sure you adjust,
you get rid of their stuff,
personal property,
photos,
gifts,
clothing.

But it's the memories that become the tormentors.
Other people may come into your life (eventually)
But no one will EVER be able too plug back into that spot again...
...no matter how bad we want that
or how we attempt it ;
we end up with the wrong size plug
or they plug into the mind only.
the cord may come close
but will get left neatly coiled up next to the old wound.

The husk usually ends up in a downward spiral of
addiction
loneliness
isolation
wandering
incarcerations
homelessness
institutions.
That cycle can last for decades...
...that is real suffering.

Maybe those who have never had that type of connection are the lucky ones... because...

When a person truly suffers a broken heart
THEIR SOUL STOPS.
