Thank You, Piano

Mon, 09/24/2018 - 22:32 -- jcs

My lovely and finely polished friend,
your black and white keys put my fingers' boredom to an end.
I've always loved the way that you sang,
A sound much more beautiful than a violin's horrid twang. No disrespect to the violin-- since I know it's your cousin. We got to know each other when I was very young,
but trying to learn your language made me feel high-strung.
Luckily I did not quit,
The skills you helped me develop proves this bit.
Without you I'd only be fluent in English,
but now I know a language that doesn't require lips.
Thanks to the years we've been through,
you've taught me how to manage my time,
and how to accomplish things without losing my mind.
You've taught me how to keep attemping something,
even when that something feels very crushing.
Patience is a virtue, we're toldand knowing that I can practice patience makes me feel a bit bold.
Through you, I have a different medium to express how I feel
because sometimes using words don't have the same appeal. So thank you for being the biggest influence on me, Piano,
otherwise I wouldn't have anything to write for this poem, no?
