Scars are permanent and so is ink
These things I unveil are just what I think
Rosa Parks and Ida.B were women fighting for you and me
Martin marched and Malcolm fought, yet either way our freedom they sought
No one gave up, and for that I love them more than words can be written
So many people risked their lives and all I have to do now is agree and abide
Beaten, killed, lynched, and drug
Still we befriended the enemies with hugs
Denigrated, castrated, humiliated, and frustrated
Still we rose like the intelligent people proving to the world what we could be
What Martin Luther King thought for you and me
I’m glad these tribulations and trials were in the past
“Thank god almighty we are free at last”
